About Gearoid Simms

Hi. I’m Gearoid Simms, a Bath-based artist originally from the Liberties in Dublin. My Da was Kevin Simms, who painted old Dublin as it changed from the 1960s onwards. He also painted in Connemara, County Galway.

I attended St. Teresa’s C.B.S., Donore Ave. and Synge St. C.B.S. schools in Dublin. In the 1990s I went to Bath City College, studying painting, sculpture, and A-level art history. Arthur Armstrong, a good friend of my Dad’s, was always a knowledgeable teacher.

I was a member of the United Arts Club, Dublin, where I exhibited in group shows. I showed work at the St. Stephen’s Green art fair and Temple Bar market, and had my first one-man show in Toner’s Bar, Dublin, in 2012. My paintings are always on show in Grogan’s Bar, Dublin.

I try to capture atmospheric moods in my en plein air painting. I paint in oils but also use watercolour, pastel, pencils, collage, and mixed media — street and landscape, life figure, still life, abstract, and conceptual work.

I hope you like my work — Gearoid.
